Au Naturel...

So a few weeks ago me and my mate from work were talking about hairstyles that we were going to do for our upcoming work trip (will fill you in on that another day) and she showed me about http://fuckyeahcurlscurlscurls.tumblr.com/ - this blog is so sick and as the name suggests, it's just about curly hair!

My friend is mixed race so she can actually imitate these hair do's, I can only sit back and admire - or wear a wig or do a weave...hmmmm *contemplates*

Anywho, here are my favourite pics from the site but check it out yourself to see more...

Cry Me a River...Thames

Allow me to introduce my 21 year old brother, Abiodun Balogun...

And his anthology 'Londons Invisble Tears'

It's a collection of poems and short stories based on his experiences of growing up in a traditional West African household slap bang in the middle of South East London...

The anthology features a diverse range of topics which makes it suitable for people of all ages.

Here are my three favourite ones...

When I first read 'Youth' I was like 'what does this guy know about getting old man, he's only 16!' (then I remembered that he isn't 16...i'm not 18.... and it's not 2006 anymore - it's kinda scary how time flies)

'Johnson Ndjoli' touched my heart as it describes my brothers reaction upon hearing that a close childhood friend had passed away due to a senseless attack...

'1st Glance' speaks of the hypocrisy and double standards in Western society... short and sharp, it makes you think

To celebrate the release of 'Londons Invisble Tears', there was a book launch party in Picadilly Circus

If you didn't come, check out what you missed....

I'm so proud of my brother...we takin' over!

Soulful Sounds on a Sunday...

I'm a firm believer that music makes (almost) anything seem better, so when making the climb up the stairs this afternoon to face the mess that had become of my room, I knew I needed to find a humdinger of a CD to help me through...

My stereo is old, I mean like 10 years + old, but it still does the trick (when it wants to and when the CD in question is new and not copied) so with that in mind I immediately gravitated towards my Phil Collins 'Hits' album cos I was in that kinda mood and I really believe that Phil is so underrated when he's actually a G...

But my stereo, being the temperamental thing that it is, decided not to work so after about 13 minutes of switching it off/on, wiping the disc down and blowing into the system, I gave up and searched for another selection...

In late 2008, early 2009 I went through a phase of stealing my younger brothers blank CD's and making compilations, the mixes were legendary if I do say so myself.

On one collection I famously put Aaliyah 'A Girl Like You', Emma Bunton 'Maybe', LL Cool J ft The Dream 'Baby' and Giggs 'Open Up' on the same CD, I called it '29th August 2008 - Summer Sounds' my brothers called it "confused" but I digress...

So still looking for something to listen to while I sorted out my wardrobe, I came across my '18th October 2010 - Sade, Will Young and Others' mix so I popped it in...

Now if you don't know about Sade then I dunno where you've been for the past 20 odd years... I grew up on her, my mum calls her my dads 'other woman' cos he used to love her so much and from looking at the following it's not hard to see why...

This is natural beauty in its most simple form...and it doesn't hurt that she's half Nigerian aswell...right on my sister!
